When you’re playing live poker in the casino at The Monte Carlo or at a poker club you need to know how to prepare yourself because it’s a lot different then playing online poker. At a live poker game you’ll be watching your opponents every move and they will be watching you as well so you can’t make any mistakes. We’re going to look at some tips that you can use to improve your live game results.
* The hardest part of playing live poker is understanding the mental aspect of poker. When you play online you don’t see your opponents and it’s difficult to pick up on any tells. At a live poker game you’ll be sitting with your opponents and you need to be able to pick up on how your opponents play and how they act. A player might talk a lot when they are bluffing and if you pick up on this you’ll be able to trap the opponent and steal a big pot whether you have a hand or not. If you can pick up on tells from your opponents then the cards you’re being dealt is irrelevant to your success.
* In order to sit down at a poker table for hours on end you need to make sure your body is prepared. You should ensure that you have a good nights rest before going to the poker table and you should also eat a meal before sitting down to play. Making sure that your body is prepared to sit down and focus for hours is part of the battle to ensuring success at the poker tables.
* As you’re playing live games at PokerStars.com you need to make friends at the casino so that you can play against them constantly. The more you play against the same opponent the more you’ll start understanding how they play and how to pick up on tells. Friends will also tend to tell you what they have if you fold which will help you learn when you’ve made mistakes.
* You should read a quick article on live poker etiquette so that you’re prepared to behave at the poker tables. It’s important that you don’t make any enemies at the table because you aren’t displaying proper etiquette at the poker table so ensure you read a guide on how to behave at the poker table before playing your first live game.
* A lot of players will bring hats, sunglasses and even headphones in order to make sure that players can’t get any tells off of them. If you’re known to not look opponents in the eye then I would suggest bringing sunglasses. You should also wear headphones if you’re easily distracted at the poker table because there will usually be a lot of noise.
These are some simple live poker.com tips which you should adapt into your game immediately so that you have a good chance at winning. The cards will need to fall your way on some hands, but you can also make your own luck at the poker table by winning the mental game.
The first thing you need to know about a rebuy tournament is what exactly it is so that you don’t get confused once you join one. In a rebuy tournament you’ll be able to rebuy chips typically for the first hour of the event and after the first hour players will no longer be able to rebuy. There are some benefits of playing in rebuy tournaments and some negatives and we’re going to look at both in this guide.
* One good thing about internet poker sites rebuy tournaments is that you can’t be beaten early in the event due to a bad beat because you’ll be able to buy back into the tournament. Often in regular tournaments the good players will lose on a bad beat when they lose so if you can rebuy chips when you get a bad beat it limits the amount of trouble you can get into.
* A negative for most players, but a plus for some players is that if you have lots of money you can typically buy yourself deep into the tournament. For those of us who don’t like spending money rebuying multiple times it can be a negative that your opponents with money can buy themselves deep into the event. This is a double edged sword and will only help out those with money and not those without money.
* A benefit for all players in the tournament is that the prize pool will increase a lot due to the rebuys in the event which will help you win more money. Typically the prize pool will at least double if not more when you play in a rebuy tournament solely because of the rebuy money paid by players in the tournament.
* A lot of players will play loosely for the first hour of the event because they know that they can rebuy into the tournament. This will allow you to play more hands and hopefully trap an aggressive opponent when you hit a hand. It’s also a good idea to increase your stack early in rebuy tournaments so that you can survive once the blinds have risen.
* If you get a fish on your WSOP table who has money then you can potentially win thousands of chips off of the one player within the first hour of the event while the other player can rebuy. This won’t happen often, but it will happen sometimes and you need to watch out for these players. If you notice a player going all-in with nothing then call with nothing and see if you can hit. Worst case you’ll need to rebuy into the tournament, but if you win the hand you’ll have a nice chip stack.
There is no doubt that there are plenty of benefits for playing in rebuy tournaments rather then regular tournaments, but there are also negatives especially if you don’t have money for the rebuy period. These events are ideal for players with the bankroll to be able to rebuy once or twice if you lose your chips.
So, almost a month into the MLB baseball betting season, which are the teams paying off the most for the betting enthusiast? I can think of a few.
The Marlins. A three-game losing streak recently may have slowed their torrid pace, but they still swept the Braves and have a 20-plus run differential against their opponents. The success is coming more from their third-best 3.61 ERA than their not-as-impressive .258 batting average. Although don’t tell that to Jorge Cantu, who’s hitting .348 so far with 8 RBI’s. The Marlins are playing like they believe they can win, and that they belong atop the NL East (sound like another Florida team from last year?) These Sunshine State boys are making the conference wake up and take notice, all the while looking up at the fish in the standings. We’ll see how long this lasts.
The Red Sox. Welcome back to the top, Boston. Or at least near the top. These guys were murder on the gamblers early on, dropping games they were expected to win left and right. Hitting and pitching has been disappointingly average, but the defense has held up, and their certainly showing signs of life. Nothing like an upcoming series against hated rival Yankees to really put them to the test early on. Anyone else get the feeling the Blue Jays reign atop the AL East is about to fly the coop?
The Dodgers. Don’t forget the other NL team playing above .700 ball right now. That’s right, at 10-4 the Dodgers have paid off early for baseball betters more than any other MLB team. These guys are an offensive machine. The have the best hitting stats in the league right now, and their 14 stolen bases already only adds insult to injury to their opponents. Not to be forgotten, the pitchers are doing it, too, with a fantastic 3.14 team ERA (4th in the league). And expect the punishment to continue as Los Angeles gets to feast on San Fransisco and Colorado next. While all the Cubs fans are predicting a 100-win season for their team, it’s the Dodgers that have the tools right now to make a run at best record in the NL come September. I’d keep my money riding on Manny being Manny until they cool off, which may or may not happen anytime soon.
There is going to be a time in every Full Tilt poker player’s career where they’re going to want to jump up in limits and play for more money. This is normal and although some players might not do as well most players will at least give it a shot. There are numerous factors you need to consider when you begin moving up stakes in poker and we’re going to look at some tips to make the move smoother.
- The first thing you need to keep in mind is that you’re going to be facing tougher opposition when you move up limits. There are a lot of fish on the low limit tables when you play online, but as you move up in the limits you’re going to find that the fish disappear and the sharks come out to play. It’s not going to be a factor that will make you lose, but if you aren’t aware of the fact then it could get you in trouble. You won’t be able to bluff as much at the higher limits and you’ll need to really switch up your game a lot.
- The second most important thing to remember when you’re moving up stakes is that you can’t just jump from a $1/$2 game up to a $100/$200 game. You need to make the transition slowly and smoothly so you need to make stops at other levels in between. If you’ve been playing $1/$2 then you should play $2/$5 for a couple months to see how that goes before moving up to $5/$10 and $10/$20.
- Another factor you need to consider when playing on PKR Poker is that you might not mind shipping $100-$200 into the pot on an all-in to win the pot, but when you need to ship $1000+ it might be a different story. You don’t want to be stressed out while playing because usually that will result in losing money so you need to be comfortable with the stakes you’re playing at. If you aren’t comfortable then consider moving down a level for a week or two to gain some confidence back.
- Players on the table are very observant when they’re playing high limits and they won’t make the same mistakes you see on the lower limit tables. They will also pick up on mistakes you make and will trap you much more efficiently then low limit players so you need to be careful. You can’t use the same mentality that you would use on a low limit table so keep this in mind when you’re playing on the higher limit tables.
Making the move to higher limit tables can pay off tremendously because you’ll be playing bigger pots and if you keep winning you’ll be winning more money. You need to take the move slowly though to ensure that you don’t wind up becoming overwhelmed. If it isn’t working out for you then make sure you move back down a level or two until you start winning again and then move back up.
